Brent & JennWe (Brent and Jenn Nims, a.k.a. Nims Media) were commissioned by Gospel Light Worldwide to create the One Million Children documentary series. We traveled for three weeks to China, India and South Africa where we were welcomed into humble homes, visited orphanages, townships and churches on the beach. We made lots of new friends and heard life-changing stories of faith, hope and love.

The following is a collection of posts written as we prepared and then went on our journey. Comments have been left open if you would like to comment on anything that you read.

Ouch!

Brent and I went to the Oxnard Public Health Travel Clinic last Friday to get our vaccinations. As it turned out, he got 5 and I being somewhat afraid of needles and unsure of my immunization history decided to wait and only get 2 until I got my immunization records from Westmont. Upon receiving my records from a very helpful Westmont health clinic person, I found out I needed to go back for 2 more shots. Some of the shots I got when I went to India in 1999 were still good. So Noah and I went back to the clinic yesterday to finish up my vaccinations. (Show me more…)

Answered prayer and….

We have a foster parent for our kitty Sunny lined up! Not only does he have a foster mommy, but an awesome one at that!!! I know he will be in very loving hands.

We are still busy getting things prepared. I went to the Doctor today and she wrote all of my prescriptions but one…she was worried about liability or something. I guess I shouldn’t be asking for Morphine for the flight ;) No seriously, she didn’t say no but said she would have to talk to the main doctor and I haven’t heard back from her as of yet. Passports and Visas

PassportsOur passports & visas arrived today just two & 1/2 weeks after sending our pics & documents to Washington DC. We used a service called Travel Document Express. They were super helpful. Definitely would to recommend them to anyone needing a quick turn around on their passport or visas (I understand they are so backed up at the passport office that it can take upwards or four months via the standard route…yikes!).

In 24 hours…

we’ll still be on a plane. It’s 5 am and I can’t sleep. We are leaving for the airport tonight at 9 pm. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m happy. I’m sad. I’m trusting God. Leaving my boys is hard. They are asleep in my bed right now. It was their special treat since we don’t get to see them for 3 weeks. My thoughts are all over the place. I am still in shock we are doing this. I feel incredibly humbled and we aren’t even there yet. Brent is amazing. He has been holding up under an enormous amount of stress this week. I feel like I haven’t even really seen him, even though he has been in his office in our house all week. Things have being coming together quite nicely. The gifts arrived Thursday…praise God. I have also been able to purchase individual gifts for our hosts. And I bought Connect 4 games for all of the families as a family gifts. I am really excited about those because one they are actually made in the USA and it’s something we can play with them without a translator. The majority (Seriously, 90%) of our checked baggage is now gifts for all the people we meet….we couldn’t have done this without you. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generosity. The support has brought us to tears a few times!! I’m going to go see if I can get and hour or two more of sleep with my little ones.

love, jenn

Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific 747We have landed at the Hong Kong International airport. The airport is very nice and has free wi-fi. Brent and I decided we love the internet because even though we are on the other side of the world we feel so close on-line. It’s about 9:oo am Monday morning. (We lost a day of our lives.) Our flight to Beijing leaves in a few hours. The flight wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be…the 13 hours just flew by. (That was a dumb joke…I apologize!) We both slept a lot, although we are still really tired. I woke up halfway through the flight and was wide awake because it was about 8 am CA time. So I watched a movie, The Painted Veil (enjoyed it). I didn’t have much anxiety on the plane. I felt filled with the peace of God (or maybe I was just too tired to care if the plane crashed). We hit some turbulence when we landed so I just buried my face in Brent’s lap and prayed…other than that it was great. (Show me more…)
