South Africa is a land of magnificent beauty and increasing tension. Racial, economic, and political strain abound. Walled middle class neighborhoods are minutes away from HIV/Aids stricken squatter camps. Wealthy farmers and poor workers live side by side on the plains. It’s not unusual to see a BMW drive by a woman washing clothes outside a tin shack in the winter.

Crime and HIV/AIDS have affected almost all South Africans. South Africa is one of the hardest hit places in the world by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It is estimated that more people are living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa than any other country. Crime is prevalent and Johannesburg has one of the highest crime rates in the world. Affluent South Africans are leaving in droves seeking stability.

The children of South Africa may face an uncertain future in their country but with Christ they can find certainty. Gospel Light Worldwide is currently working with leaders in Johannesburg translating curriculum into the many languages of South Africa and distributing it to churches throughout the area and beyond with the hope that the children of South Africa will come to know Jesus and become the leaders of tomorrow that will find true reconciliation and peace.
